The Australian Government Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts aims to protect and sustain our unique and diverse environment. In partnership with governments, industry, the community and individual Australians it develops and implements the Government’s policies and programs to care for, manage and value Australia’s natural environment and the resources it provides, now and into the future. The department has proudly sponsored the Prime Minister’s Environmentalist of the Year award since 2001 and awarded the inaugural Environment Minister’s Young Environmentalist of the Year in 2008. These awards recognise the outstanding contributions that Australians of all ages and in all walks of life have made to our environment, and the example they continue to set for us all.
